Hacks to Help You Save Money on Fuel

Tips to Save on Gas

Slash your trips to the gas station with these fuel-saving tips.

Every motorist seems to be looking to save a dollar here and there. After all, it all adds up so that you can save money throughout the year for the things that you enjoy. Getting more miles to the gallon in your vehicle is a large factor that drivers have to consider and shell out. Not only that but getting a better fuel economy is a lot better for the environment. Fortunately, there are a lot of things that you, as a regular driver, can do to save money on gas and better the planet.

Lighten Up

Keep heavy items out of the trunk to keep your car lighter, therefore having less mass to move. In turn, you’ll save more fuel. Clear out the trunk, get the kids’ toys from the back seat, and don’t carry anything else you may not need. But hang on to the spare tire!

Top it Up

If your tires are under-inflated, the resistance between your car and the road increases, thus using more fuel to maintain any given speed. Check your tires regularly to ensure that they’re at the recommended pressure, and top them up if necessary.

Roll Them Up

While driving at high speeds (anything over 45 mph), close the windows and sunroof. Having the windows open at high speeds will increase the drag, increasing the fuel consumption. When you’re stationary or driving at low speeds, you can turn off the air conditioner and roll down the windows.

Plan Ahead

Many of us don’t bother to do this, but planning your journey before you leave can help you to avoid traffic jams and road works. The less time you spend driving, the less fuel you use.
