Find out what you need to know about vehicle recalls.

It seems as if auto recalls are part of almost every motorists’ life. From safety standards to equipment being out of whack, we’ve seen a few recalls over the recent years. While you may never experience a recall, it’s good to know what it is and how to handle it!

Luckily, we’re here to handle all of your vehicle recall queries!

What is a vehicle recall?

A recall occurs when the manufacturer or the NHTSA determines that a vehicle has a safety-related flaw or that it does not comply with the federal safety standard. When this happens, the automaker alerts the owners to the problem and is typically offered a repair free of charge.

How will I be notified of a recall?

Predominantly, car companies send letters to customers affected by the recall. If you don’t receive a recall letter, you can search through the current safety recalls on the NHTSA’s website here as it is typically updated when the letters go out!

If I get a safety recall, should I stop driving my car?
If your car is recalled, it doesn’t automatically mean you’re in danger. However, it doesn’t necessarily mean you’re safe, either. Book your car in for the repair as soon as possible!

Do I have to pay for the repair?

If your car is on the NHTSA’s car recall list, all recall-related fixes should be done free of charge. Do note that this doesn’t mean that your car will be replaced, tuned up, and shined, too. You’ll need to take your car to an authorized dealer since they contract directly with the manufacturer!

Will the problem be fixed?

The NHTSA monitors each safety recall to be sure that the manufacturers provide owners with safe, free, and effective remedies. If you believe that the problem still exists, contact the NHTSA.
