This New Year, Resolve to Review Your Insurance
Take the time to review your insurance policies this year.
Although you may have made some good New Year's resolutions, be sure you aren't leaving anything to chance. A great way to resolve to better protect your assets and finances is to review your insurance policies. Even a quick review can make sure you adjust coverage to suit your current needs and lifestyle so you're better protected. Reading policies isn't exactly anyone's idea of fun. Unfortunately, most people don't go through them until they actually need to file a claim. Reviewing your coverage can help save you from headaches later. Here are some items you may want to check for:- You may feel you need to save money on your monthly premiums. This can be accomplished by increasing the size of your deductible. Keep in mind that you will need to have this money on hand for the out-of-pocket cost in the event of a claim.
- Roadside assistance. Does your auto insurance policy cover roadside assistance/towing cover? You may want to consider adding this coverage to your policy so that, should you break down, you have a solution in place.
- Actual cash value. Does your policy pay the actual cash value (what the property is worth after depreciation) or replacement cost for property damage by a fire or other covered event?
- Home inventory. Have you sold/donated/purchased items since you last took a home inventory? Now is the time to get your policy up to date with your personal possessions so they are protected in case of a disaster.
